Google Design Principles

Description

Project Date: Q4 2007

I was a member of a core team appointed by Irene Au, Director of User Experience, to identify and document Googley design principles. The document we created is in the same vein as the ten things Google has found to be true and serves as the guiding philosophy by which Google thinks about the user experience. The set of principles we created makes it easier to unify the vision and experience design of Google products, resulting in better products for our customers.

The principles were described in an official blog post and now live on Google's corporate home.

Role

Worked with Google's most senior designers to identify the principles that guide design at Google, define them, and write them; actively advocated for posting the principles publicly; presented the principles to Googlers in several offices; presented the principles at the Writers UA Conference in Portland.
